KATHMANDU : Tara Air has submitted a preliminary investigation report to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) concerning the incident involving the fall of the aircraft’s glass panel of the emergency door during takeoff. According to the company’s report, the glass panel of Tara Air’s emergency door, en route to Lukla, detached after departing from the Tribhuvan International Airport.
Gyanendra Bhul, the information officer of CAAN, stated that the glass panel had fallen due to a failure in properly securing the luggage. “While taking off from Runway 02, it was observed that the glass panel fell onto vacant land near Gothatar, close to Krishna Temple. Investigation revealed that the cargo was not adequately loaded,” Bhul explained. Additionally, it was noted that the pilot was unaware of the detachment of the glass panel on the right side.
Following the incident, Tara Air underwent a refresher class for cargo loaders, as directed by CAAN. Furthermore, the pilot, co-pilot, and air hostess were grounded for eight days, with their release effective as of yesterday.
On Sunday, December 10, the ’emergency door’ of the aircraft with the 9N-ALO callsign, operating the Kathmandu-Lukla route at 9:30 AM with two passengers and cargo, detached during flight. The door’s detachment was only discovered after the aircraft landed at Lukla at 10 AM.
