Jhapa : Nepal Multipurpose Cooperative Society (NMC) of Jhapa, the country’s leading cooperative, has provided 40 million 49 lakh 23 thousand 890 rupees for relief and facilities to its members, members’ families and communities in the last financial year.
According to statistics, the country’s second largest cooperative organization, which has its head office at Kankarvitta in Jhapa and covers Morang and Ilam districts of Koshi province as well, distributed the amount under 14 headings in the financial year 2080/081 for the relief and convenience of its members.
According to the statistics provided by the community department of the organization, only 2 crore 76 lakh 74 thousand rupees have been provided for relief facilities and cleaning expenses for the death of 1 thousand 814 members of the organization and their families. Similarly, 19 lakh 89 thousand 543 rupees have been spent for condolence and death expenses of 2 thousand 815 people.
The organization has a policy to provide such relief and facilities by showing guardianship in every happy and sad event that occurs in the member’s family from birth to death. Accordingly, 37 lakh 71 thousand 650 rupees have been provided to 161 members for treatment of chronic diseases.
Similarly, 27 people affected by natural calamities were given 237,500 rupees, 37 injured people were given 390,285 rupees for medical relief, and 1,634 people were given nutritious food worth 15,49,287 rupees during maternity visits. Similarly, 45 lakh 13 thousand 965 rupees have been spent on birthday gifts for 14 thousand 994 child savers of the organization, while 50 child savers who are first in school have been given a prize of 250 thousand rupees.
3 lakh 6 thousand 660 rupees were given as gifts to 656 savers who opened child savings accounts, and 3 lakh 36 thousand rupees were spent on scholarships for 1-1 students studying in 28 community campuses. The organization has spent 37 lakh 85 thousand rupees honoring 753 senior members.
Likewise, the organization has distributed educational materials worth 120,000 rupees to 24 schools that have formed student saving clubs.
Distributing money in this way can become another issue for those who have a negative view of the cooperative campaign and spread rumours. But it is rare to see such a contribution made by financial sector cooperatives established by members and run for members for their members and community.
There are many cooperative organizations in Jhapa that can be counted on the fingers that have the ability to distribute aid to the community more than the balance sheet of some cooperative organizations. One of them, the expenditure incurred by NMC for the community and its members can be considered as an incomparable contribution.
